Brotherhood Groups

About thirty members of the Men of Today meet on a continuing basis.  They are members of four separate Brotherhood Groups most of whom meet weekly to learn and practice various skills needed for emotionally healthy living.  Among these are; basic listening, conflict resolution, trust and goal setting and self-empowerment skills.  These being the skill set needed for the many roles men play in their lives in this complicated world of many demands.

Once the skill learning has begun and men are in place and the group has become a safe place for men's work, the men will advance to topics of concern and benefit to the various lives they are living.  They will learn to trust and love themselves as men and be in relationships as husbands, fathers, lovers, brothers, friends, employers and employees, as well as in community service and all other ways that men are called upon to relate.

One of the assumptions of this work is that men can and do learn in a safe place with other men skills and lessons that they can't or won't learn elsewhere.  It is a place to practice conflict resolution that builds, intimacy, and self-power rather than separation and distrust.  It is a place to learn to stay present and powerful rather than withdraw physically or emotionally.  It is a safe place to learn and practice how to handle invalidation and attack appropriately, rather than retreat or attack back, to learn to confront and challenge with a compassion that builds trust and growth.  It is a place to learn to receive and integrate challenge and confrontation rather than withdraw and become defensive.

Membership in these groups usually proceeds from attending our monthly breakfasts where this initial bonding experience takes root, but other avenues are available.

An introductory meeting was held on February 14 following our monthly breakfast.  Twenty men attended and 10 undertook to join existing groups or form a new one.  We will hold these type sessions from time to time throughout the year to initiate new men into existing groups and create new ones.

Interested men should contact Angelo Miele or any of the Men of Today at our monthly breakfast held the 2nd Saturday of each month.  Angelo can be reached by phone at 586-801-8108 or by email at amiele@synergycom.com
